femshep.com in new ME ezine

Hi folks!

I'm going to be contributing an article to an upcoming ezine on Mass Effect by Phaedon (Known Feature's Thread). Basically, I want to write about how femShep.com came about, femShep fandom and how the recent campaign has affected the fandom.  If you'd like to provide any quotes, opinions or ather points on the matter, I would appreciate it.  Thanks!

I love the people on this site. We're similar enough to get along well, but different enough to broaden our horizons. That and this is one of the few sites where guys that play girl characters aren't teased, which is a rarity on the internet.

I would suggest mentioning how what started as a simple voice-over preference let to discussions on the merits of strong women in gaming as well as how "socially acceptable" it's become for men to play as femShep. In my case, it's like what Tom Bissell at the New Yorker said - it adds in another layer of fiction - Shepard's not me, but femShep is simply the more interesting character. Male Shepard's been done to death, femShep is a welcome change of pace.

I would say it is rare to meet some many people share a single common interest with huge amount of support to each other, does that mean femshep is sort of attracting this type of person to come together?

 

Also, femshep is a character you can role play in and feel great no matter which gender the player is, Sheploo is more like a body with very less soul or connection with the players, or may be it is not the way as we feel to our femshep.
